President Donald Trump has officially dropped the hammer on Canada after announcing late on Monday evening that he’s going to double the steel and aluminum tariffs on our neighbors to the north to 50 percent, going on to cite Ontario’s decision to place a tax on U.S. electricity exports as the reason for the increase.
“This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th,” Trump went on to say in a Truth Social post, placing emphasis on the urgency of the action. The increase comes a few hours before a 25 percent tariff — which was previously planned — was set to take effect at midnight.
Tensions are rising, folks. We could be in for a legitimate trade war.
“The president’s move underscores his determination to confront what he sees as Canada’s unfair trade policies, particularly its long-standing protectionist measures on key industries. Trump further warned that if Canada does not roll back tariffs on dairy products and other U.S. agricultural products, he will impose even broader restrictions on Canadian exports starting April 2,” Breitbart News reported.
“Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous,” Trump stated.
“The White House is also preparing to increase tariffs on Canadian automobiles and auto parts, a move that could deliver a serious blow to Canada’s manufacturing sector. In February, Trump delayed a round of tariffs on Canadian goods, and last week, he announced a one-month extension for most imports, including auto parts, after consultations with U.S. automakers,” the article added.
“If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA!” the president wrote on social media.
Trump is showing the world that he says what he means and means what he says. None of the threats he made were empty. Yes, they’re negotiating tactics, and yes, they might hurt a bit, but the rest of the world needs to respect us and the monetary help we’ve tossed all around the world.
Canada should be protecting and preserving their own borders. It’s common sense and common courtesy for those located to your south. But they refuse to do the right thing. Why? Because socialism.
The only way to repair the damage done to the friendship between our nations is for Canada to secure their borders and stop the drugs from flowing into America and killing our people.
That’s not asking too much.
