Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson sat down for an interview with South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, a Republican who is currently running for president, during the 2023 FAMiLY Leadership Summit in Des Moines, Iowa. Scott definitely made this interesting right out of the gate, that much is for sure. During the event, he revealed what position he would appoint Carlson to in his presidential cabinet, and honestly, it was pretty funny.
“Isn’t it good to be in a nation where you are free to praise the Lord?” Scott asked those in the event’s sold-out crowd.
“The stage was set with chairs for both Carlson and Scott, but Scott spent a good portion of the interview standing, working the stage, and speaking directly to the audience rather than directly to Carlson,” TheBlaze reported.
Scott got a good chuckle from the crowd when he stated he would appoint Tucker Carlson to be the “Bye-Bye Ambassador.” The senator was making a reference to a comment Carlson made suggesting those who enter the United States illegally should be rounded-up and “dropped off in Tijuana.”
However, things weren’t all cheeky through out the entirety of the interview. Scott tried to dodge and maneuver his way around many of the hard questions that Tucker Carlson asked him about the war between Russia and Ukraine, but he did seem adamant about ensuring U.S. soldiers stayed here at home.
“We should never allow American soldiers to be engulfed into the challenge between Ukraine and Russia. Our boots on the ground should not be there,” Scott said.
He also bobbed and weaved around questions the former Fox News host asked about sending cluster bombs to Ukraine, stating that such a move wouldn’t be necessary if he were the commander-in-chief. He went on to tell Tucker Carlson that reservists would be better utilized at the border as a sort of “human wall” rather than being sent off to Ukraine.
“If you don’t control your own back door, it’s not your country,” the senator said.
When Carlson asked Scott about the millions of illegal migrants who have crossed into the United States under the leadership of the current administration, saying this was an “invasion,” he responded by saying, “I agree.”
“[I want to] make sure the Mexican cartels cease to exist,” Scott also remarked. The senator’s statement about closing the border in order to help end the crisis and make the nation safer is one of several lines that garnered big applause from the crowd attending the event.
“There are forces in this nation that hate objective truth,” Scott commented. “Two genders, one truth.”
The interview with Carlson came to a close the same way it started, with Scott placing an emphasis on his religious faith.
“For those who don’t like commonsense conservative principles driven by the Judeo- Christian foundation, choose another candidate. It’s that simple,” he said to the audience.
“Scott praised Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds for her commitment to protecting life earlier this week after Iowa lawmakers passed legislation to outlaw most abortions as soon as the unborn baby has a heartbeat. Reynolds will be signing the bill at the Summit later in the day,” TheBlaze reported.
“Great news! I celebrate states like Iowa and the leadership of Gov. @KimReynoldsIA that understand the importance of creating a culture that protects life,” Scott posted on Twitter.
