Former President Donald Trump was none too impressed with Vice President Kamala Harris’ CNN interview, scoffing not only at her poor performance, but even insinuating that she did so with notes. We’ve all seen what happens when Harris goes off script. Nervous cackling followed by long, drawn out word salads that are almost completely incoherent. And this is who the left wants to put in the highest office in the country? Really? Just imagine her sitting down for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He’d practically eat her alive during such a conversation.
On Wednesday evening of this week, Trump sat down with Fox News for a town hall style event where he went totally Conan the Barbarian on Harris over the interview she did with CNN, even throwing serious shade at her running mate, Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz. Trump stated during the conversation he believed the vice president was reading from notes and “nobody wants to cover it.”
Trump made the remark after the event host, Sean Hannity, slammed Harris for how long the sit-down interview with Dana Bash ended up being.
via The Western Journal:
“Sixteen minutes and 30 seconds are up. Thank you for being with us!” Hannity quipped, remarking at the amount of actual speaking time the Democratic presidential nominee did during the CNN interview, her first since becoming the de facto standard-bearer in July. “I’ll say something, though,” Trump said through the laughter. “If you watch that interview, she had notes. That means she knew the questions. She kept looking down!” he continued. “Nobody wants to cover it. I know all about notes!”
Leaving aside the wonderfully chucklesome Trumpism (“I’m the best without notes, I have all the best non-note answers”) and the fact that he’s known for speaking off the cuff, this brings up two of the major issues with the Harris-CNN interview: the fact she kept looking down, for some unknown reason, and the fact that nobody seemed to really call her on it.
Part of Kamala’s interview at #CNN. Awful. She’s looks down at a note card almost the entire time. Pathetic. pic.twitter.com/hlnlNFhpHk

Kamala Harris Caught Hiding Notes During @CNN Interview? See this suspicious clip, where Kamala keeps looking down at a fixed spot, but in wide frame, nothing is there. Is there a reason to lie about notes? (cc: @elonmusk )
I mean, if I went on CNN for an interview I'd make damn… pic.twitter.com/5WSwmQ4ldN

There are other possible explanations for why she might have been looking down so much, but let’s be honest, given the fact she is a horrible off-the-cuff speaker, the most probable explanation is that she had some printed material to work from to help minimize the damage she’s capable of during a conversation of this nature. The thing is, Harris just not a compelling person. While there might not have been any gaffes during the interview, nothing was all that awe inspiring either.
Instead, if she was using note cards for this, they’ll be taken away during the Sept. 10 debate between Harris and Trump. Reports claimed her camp wanted to change the rules to allow for notes as well as to keep both mics open as each candidate spoke, rather than to mute the other candidate.
“Vice President Harris, a former prosecutor, will be fundamentally disadvantaged by this format, which will serve to shield Donald Trump from direct exchanges with the Vice President. We suspect this is the primary reason for his campaign’s insistence on muted microphones,” a letter from Harris’ campaign to ABC News, which will host the debate, read, according to CNN.
Regardless of reasoning, all requests made by Harris’ camp were rejected by ABC. No notes and he mics will be muted. Aside from simply not showing up for the debate, there’s nothing her campaign can do to minimize the damage that could possibly come out of an event like this with Trump. All the former president has to do is just let her talk and she’ll do a good job of ruining herself.
