A new video has gone viral showing a surprising moment during the memorial service for Ethel Kennedy that show President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama having what looks to be a serious exchange. The event was held at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, which is located in our nation’s capital. Many political leaders from all over the U.S. showed up to show honor for the widow of Robert F. Kennedy, the father of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has sided with former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race.
When the clip started making its way around social media, folks online began to speculate on the topic of conversation, especially with just a few weeks remaining before the election.
Amid the solemn occasion, speculation swirled over what exactly Biden and Obama were discussing during their private conversation, especially with only weeks remaining until the 2024 presidential election. Ethel Kennedy, who passed away at age 96 following complications from a stroke, was a towering figure in American political and social circles. The funeral was a somber event, drawing prominent political figures like Bill Clinton, who delivered a touching speech. However, it wasn’t long before the buzz shifted from honoring Ethel to dissecting the interaction between Biden and Obama.
Professional lip-reader Jeremy Freeman, hired by The New York Post to analyze the video footage of the two presidents, provided some shocking revelations about their conversation. According to Freeman, the exchange took a turn toward Vice President Kamala Harris and her perceived strength going into the upcoming election. During the conversation, Biden reportedly said, “She’s not as strong as me,” in reference to Harris, with Obama responding, “I know… that’s true.” The two continued their discussion, with Obama offering some words of reassurance, adding, “We have time.” Biden followed by saying, “Yeah, we’ll get it in time.” Even though Freedman didn’t explicitly mention Harris in his transcription, it’s hard to imagine who else could have been the subject of the discussion. Freedman characterized the conversation as “very supportive” and noted that he sensed “no tension” between Obama and Biden, despite rumors fueled by Obama shaking his head at one point.
Many have commented that this clip proves there is some serious turmoil within the Democratic Party with some saying there’s tension between Harris’ campaign and the aides at the White House.
“From the outset, there has been widespread concern that Harris was not a strong alternative to Biden, who clearly was a sinking ship. So much so [that] multiple House members floated the idea of an open convention or removing Harris from the ticket along with Biden,” one Democratic source said in comments given to The Post. “Democrats essentially robbed Peter to pay Paul and are now stuck with a less likable sinking ship.”
Not long before Biden finally caved in and decided to step away from the nomination, reports were circulating that the president’s resentment toward Obama was his inspiration for continuing his campaign. Once he walked away from the race, Obama came forward and heaped praise on him for his decision, calling it a reflection of his “love of country.”
