Former President Donald Trump is no doubt celebrating the results of a brand new poll that revealed he now has a massive 43-point lead over potential competitor Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the Republican Party race to be the presidential nominee. Once again, this demonstrates that Trump still holds significant power and sway within the GOP, contrary to what leftists and many members of the party establishment are saying.
The poll, which was published on Tuesday according to Breitbart, says that 61 percent of potential GOP primary voters support Trump being the party’s nominee. A total of 18 percent are backing DeSantis, who, as of this writing, has not declared that he’s actually running for office, which puts him firmly in second place. The new 43-point lead is the largest the former president has had in polling.

“No other candidate garners double-digit support in the latest poll. Former Vice President Mike Pence sits in third place at six percent, followed by former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy who tie at four percent. Another two percent of respondents back former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), while Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) tie at one percent,” the report said.
“The poll asked Trump and DeSantis supporters who their second choice candidates would be, finding they both take the lion’s share of each other’s support. Of DeSantis supporters, 43 percent say they view Trump as their second choice. Pence draws the second-highest second-choice response at 15 percent, followed by Haley at 13 percent and Ramaswamy at nine percent,” it continued.
However, if something should come up that would prevent Trump from running for president or completing his campaign, DeSantis is the second choice for 44 percent of Trump supporters, followed by 15 percent for Pence, 10 percent for Ramaswamy, and Haley pulling up the rear with five percent.
A total of 3,571 potential primary voters were surveyed for the poll, with a margin of error of plus two to four percentage points.
“The poll also gauged hypothetical general election match-ups between the top-performing Republicans and President Joe Biden. In a rematch of the 2020 election, Biden leads Trump by a margin of 44 percent to 41 percent. Another nine percent would vote for another candidate, and six percent are unsure who they would back,” Breitbart News said.
If the 2024 presidential election were to be a showdown between DeSantis and Biden, at this time, Biden would take the victory at 43 percent to 41 percent.
It’s important to note that while DeSantis has not yet made his candidacy for president official, he has taken a number of steps that are typical of a person about to enter the race, thus leading many to speculate he will make the official announcement very soon, perhaps even this month.
Either way, we would have fantastic nominees, which is a good sign for the future of our nation. Trump awakened a lot of people to the truth of what’s happening in this country. Not only that, his winning the presidency in 2016 proved that you can be an outsider and still win. Regular people are stepping up to the plate now. The landscape has changed.
