President Joe Biden was the subject of a lot of criticism from fellow Democratic lawmakers following his State of the Union address Thursday evening for using the forbidden term, “illegals” to refer to illegal immigrants. You know, I never like to be the one who cuts Biden slack because I don’t think he deserves any, but in this rare occasion, I might just take that road. You see, Biden’s an old guy. Really old guy. And for the vast majority of his life and political career, the phrase “illegal” or “illegal alien” was common vernacular. It was the original label. This was likely just him falling back on that. And, to be fair, it’s really the correct terminology.
According to The Daily Wire:
Biden referenced “illegals” after Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) pressured him into referencing Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, according to police. Biden flubbed Riley’s name during his speech, calling her “Lincoln Riley.”
“Lincoln Riley!” Biden said. “An innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal. That’s right. But how many of the thousands of people being killed by illegals? To her parents, I say, my heart goes out to you having lost children myself. I understand.”
Biden is just simply a walking disaster when it comes to public speaking, likely due to his obvious dementia. The girl’s name is LAKEN. L-A-K-E-N. Not Lincoln. Good grief, man. Isn’t all of this stuff written down for him? I thought he used a ton cheat sheets.
Biden went on to say that amnesty should be granted to millions of illegal immigrants in the country and said he needed Republicans to pass a Democrat-backed bill in order to have the ability to secure the border. Despite his push for leftist policies, many Democrats were not happy with his reference to “illegals.”
Hold on, now. Wait a second. Is this guy really saying that we just need to give millions of illegal migrants a free pass and hand them amnesty? Are we really going to reward people for breaking the law? How many of these millions of illegal immigrants are like the murderer of Laken Riley? There’s no way to know. This is the total wrong approach to the border crisis. Build the wall, enforce the law.
“As a proud immigrant, I’m extremely disappointed to hear President Biden use the word ‘illegal,’” Rep. Chuy Garcia, a Democrat from Illinois stated about the comment. Well, here’s the thing. Are these people being referenced by Biden here legally? No? Then that means they are here _____?
Go ahead, Garcia. Say the word. It won’t bite.
“Disappointed that @POTUS would use such dehumanizing right wing rhetoric to speak about immigrants tonight. No human being is illegal,” Rep. Delia Ramirez, another Illinois Democrat remarked.
The term in question does not dehumanize anyone. An illegal immigrant is still a human being. The phrase being used is an indicator of legal status concerning citizenship. Stop trying to turn this into a race issue.
“Let me be clear: No human being is illegal,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) posted on X after the speech.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, told the Associated Press that she was disappointed with Biden’s reference to illegal immigrants. “I wish he hadn’t engaged with Marjorie Taylor Greene and used the word illegal,” she said.
“Just like we should not be implementing Republican policy, we should not be repeating Republican rhetoric,” Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) said.
The Biden administration has previously pushed to rid the government of any use of the term “illegal alien” or “illegal immigrant.” Instead the administration has referred to the flood of illegal immigrants who have crossed into the United States in the last several years as “newcomers” or “undocumented.”
“This change is designed to encourage more inclusive language in the agency’s outreach efforts, internal documents and in overall communication with stakeholders, partners, and the general public,” the Department of Homeland Security explained.
Political correctness is destroying this country. We better put it to rest before it ends the republic for good.
