Geraldo Rivera, a man who has had a very lengthy career as a television personality, including a stint on Fox News as a liberal windbag who pretty much drove everyone crazy, came out and announced who he would be supporting for president in the election next month. Any guesses? If you said Vice President Kamala Harris, you can give yourself a clap on the back. I’m not exactly sure who in their right mind would be influenced about who they vote for based off Rivera’s pick, but people do a lot of dumb things this day and age.
Rivera got on social media to put out a lengthy post explaining why he is choosing to back Harris, and what he had to say was a little weird, considering he had strong ties to former President Donald Trump at one point in his life. In fact, the television host actually had fairly regular access to the 45th president during his time in the White House. However, he now describes him as being a “sore loser,” claiming that the former president has somehow managed to believe what he referred to as the “Big Lie” concerning the 2020 election being stolen.

In his post, Rivera recalled his earlier support for Trump, particularly during the former president’s first run in 2016. “As President, he was a loyal friend, who allowed regular access. My resulting coverage gave him the benefit of most doubts. His presidency was underrated,” Rivera said. Yet, despite this initial praise, Rivera sharply criticized Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election and his continued claims of voter fraud.“None exists. If you are a Republican, Donald Trump has made a liar of you,” Rivera bluntly declared, accusing Trump of leading his followers astray with baseless claims. He went further, holding Trump responsible for the events of January 6, 2021, stating, “Trump incited and unleashed the violent attack on the center of democracy, the U.S. Capitol for which he was Impeached.”
Sore Loser
With three weeks to go until Election Day, Donald J. Trump stands a reasonable chance of becoming the 47th President of the United States. Despite assassination attempts, impeachments, special counsels, felony convictions and hundreds of millions in civil penalties,…— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) October 14, 2024
It’s no secret that Rivera has been a controversial figure throughout his career, often finding himself at odds with the conservative base he once courted. His latest statements show his commitment to distancing himself from Trump, even going so far as to endorse Harris, a move that is sure to alienate many former fans. Initially, Rivera was supportive of Trump, particularly during his 2016 presidential campaign. As a longtime acquaintance from the New York celebrity circuit and media scenes, Rivera often defended Trump’s actions and policies in his role as a commentator on Fox News.
Many of Trump’s supporters are likely to dismiss Rivera’s comments as the latest in a series of attacks on the former president. As Rivera himself acknowledged, Harris’s presidency would be a “disaster,” yet he still throws his support behind her in what appears to be a personal vendetta against Trump.
Here are some of the reactions folks had to Rivera’s rambling rant on social media:
Most of what you just described, is absolutely false and misleading. Cool story though.

The first mistake Geraldo made in sharing his pick for president is assuming any of us really care. When is the last time he was relevant in the eyes of the general public? What we have here is a prime example of a person who has an obscenely inflated sense of self-importance.
Maybe it’s time to hang it up, Rivera.
