Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has announced she’s stepping down from her position as co-chair of the Republican National Committee amid speculation she could potentially be chosen by Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis to replace Sen. Marco Rubio who will be joining in the incoming Trump administration as Secretary of State.
I believe that if the rumors prove to be true, Lara would make an excellent choice to replace Rubio. Just look at the lengthy list of accomplishments she has serving the RNC. Obviously, she’s a dedicated conservative who is in full support of the president-elect’s agenda. That means we’d know for sure how she would vote during confirmations and when legislation comes up containing critical components of the MAGA policy platform.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Lara Trump made a reference to potentially serving in the Senate, saying, “It is something I would seriously consider.”
Trump was elected to lead the RNC alongside fellow chair Michael Whatley in March and has been unrelenting in her support of her father-in-law and now President-elect Donald Trump. Now she said she felt she’d accomplished her goals, adding Whatley will remain on as RNC chair. The AP report noted Trump and the RNC heavily invested in its resources ahead of the election and the GOP’s successes that night can be tied to its work.
“What that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up,” Trump said. “What I intended to do has been done.” Last month Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity she “would love to serve the people of Florida” and “would love to consider” filling the seat if asked.
The daughter-in-law of the incoming president has some pretty big support for being DeSantis’ choice, including Maye Musk, the mom of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
“The Senate is an old man’s club. We desperately need a smart, young, outspoken woman who will reveal their secrets,” she explained in a post on X. Her son seemingly agreed with his mother’s sentiment, noting that Lara Trump is a great individual.
With all of the hard work she poured into getting the president-elect into the White House and helping other Republican candidates obliterate Democrats during the 2024 election, I firmly believe Lara Trump would be a total asset to the GOP in the Senate. It’s a smart pick. DeSantis would ensure that Florida is a red state for quite some time if he chose her for the job.
