Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican hailing from Arkansas, stated on Monday that he thinks the Senate, which will be under control of the GOP starting next month, will end up confirming all of the cabinet picks made by President-elect Donald Trump. That’s good news for American voters who began to feel a little skeptical about the chances of seeing someone like Kash Patel be confirmed as FBI director thanks to the secret ballot election of Sen. John Thune to the position of Senate Majority Leader.
“I expect our Republican Senate is going to confirm all of President Trump’s nominees,” Cotton posted on social media Monday morning.
It’s comforting to hear Cotton be so confident, especially since he was reelected to serve as the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference in November, which means he occupies the third most important leadership position in Congress’s upper chamber. The statement indicates that the conference isn’t going to be wasting time on the controversy cooked up by the mainstream media. We’ve all grown tired of the propaganda being pushed down our throats, so nobody is taking anything these networks and outlets have to say — aside from liberals — seriously at the moment.
Cotton acknowledged recent history showing that if a president wants his nominee to get confirmed and sticks by him – as Trump has done with Pete Hegseth, his nominee to lead the Pentagon – that nominee will receive the support of his party’s senators.
“Of the 72 cabinet secretary nominees since the Clinton transition, only 2 nominees have ever received NO votes from the president-elect’s party,” Cotton went on to write in a follow-up post on his account. “No one should be surprised that the Republican Senate will confirm President Trump’s nominees.”
Hegseth continued meeting Republicans senators Monday, with other nominees, including Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence, beginning to make the rounds as well. Trump has an aggressive legislative agenda for the first 100 days of his administration. Congress will likely need to pass government funding legislation by mid-March and will consider one or perhaps even two reconciliation bills.
If Trump’s cabinet picks are all confirmed by the Senate, it’s a strong indication that the establishment within the Republican Party has officially been put out to pasture. I can’t think of something much better for the country than that. For years upon years, establishment figures who just want a cushy job so they can get fat off taxpayers have been watering down conservative values and principles, refusing to stand on issues Americans deem important. No more. We’re done with this.
It’s time to hold our politicians accountable.
